How to Condition Your Purefast Filter

Condition the filter before first use

Run a gentle stream of tap water through the top of the filter for 15 seconds. After, turn the filter upside down and run water through each of the four bottom screens for 15 seconds (a total of 60 seconds).

2. Fully wet the media

Fill pitcher and hold the filter under water. Gently shake and tap the filter against the inside wall of the pitcher for about 2 to 3 minutes.

3. Insert the filter into your pitcher

Line up the groove in the filter with the notch in the pitcher reservoir, if applicable. Gently press the filter down to secure it in place. Purefast® Countertop is designed to fit standard Brita® pitchers.

4. Flush before drinking

Fill the reservoir with tap water and discard the filtered water. Repeat this step two to three times. For best results, avoid pouring tap water directly on top of the filter.

5. Recondition regularly for best performance

For the best hydraulic performance, recondition the filter every 30 days. Larger households and those using the Ultramax pitcher model may need to recondition every 2 weeks. To recondition, remove the filter, shake gently, and repeat conditioning steps 1 through 3.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the Purefast® Countertop filter last?

Purefast® filters are certified for 65 gallons of use. Based on typical household use, that usually means up to 6 months for one person, up to 3 months for a family of two, and up to 1.5 months for a family of four. This is based on CDC estimates that one person drinks 44 oz. of water per day, or 1,320 oz. (10 gallons) per month.

What should I do if my water pitcher is draining slowly?

Slow filtration can occur if there are excess air bubbles in tap water. Air bubbles tend to appear more frequently during winter due to temperature variation between tap water and the kitchen. To minimize air bubbles, tap water can be set aside to stand for a few minutes before filtering.  Other helpful steps are to avoid pouring tap water directly on top of the filter, and recondition the filter if flow slows significantly. Correct conditioning helps support performance over time.
