How to Condition Your Purefast Filter

1. Condition the filter before first use

Run small streams of tap water through the top of the filter for 15 seconds. Then turn the filter upside down and run water through each bottom screen for 15 seconds, for a total of 60 seconds.

2. Fully wet the media

Fill your pitcher with water and hold the filter under water. Gently shake and tap the filter against the inside wall of the pitcher for about 2 to 3 minutes, or until you no longer see air bubbles coming out of the filter.

3. Insert the filter into your pitcher

Line up the groove in the filter with the notch in the pitcher reservoir, if applicable. Gently press the filter down to secure it in place. Purefast® Countertop is designed to fit standard Brita® pitchers.

4. Flush before drinking

Fill the reservoir with tap water and discard the filtered water. Repeat this step two to three times. For best results, avoid pouring tap water directly on top of the filter.

5. Recondition regularly for best performance

For the best hydraulic performance, recondition the filter every 30 days. Larger households and those using the Ultramax pitcher model may need to recondition every 2 weeks. To recondition, remove the filter, shake gently, and repeat conditioning steps 1 through 3.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the Purefast® Countertop filter last?

Purefast® filters are certified for 65 gallons of use. Based on typical household use, that usually means up to 6 months for one person, up to 3 months for a family of two, and up to 1.5 months for a family of four.

What should I do if my water pitcher is draining slowly?

A slower filtration rate than a standard Brita® filter may happen because Purefast® includes DEXSORB® for PFAS reduction. To help maintain flow, keep the filter upright when taking it in or out of the reservoir, avoid pouring tap water directly on top of the filter, and recondition the filter if flow slows significantly. Correct conditioning helps support performance over time.

Which pitchers should I use with my Purefast® filter?

Purefast® Countertop is designed for use with standard Brita® pitchers.

How effective is Purefast® Countertop in reducing PFAS?

Purefast® Countertop is NSF certified and removes PFOA, PFOS, PFHxA, PFHxS, PFNA, PFDA, PFHpA, PFPeA, PFBS, PFBA, and HFPO-DA (GenX). It produces PFAS-free water in about 20 minutes.

Is Purefast® Countertop NSF certified?

Yes. Purefast® Countertop is NSF/ANSI 53 certified.

How do I recondition the filter?

For best hydraulic performance, recondition the filter every 30 days. Larger households and those using the Ultramax pitcher model may need to recondition every 2 weeks. To recondition, remove the filter, shake gently, and repeat the conditioning steps in the “How It Works” section before placing it back in the pitcher.

What makes Purefast® Countertop different from a standard pitcher filter?

Purefast® Countertop is powered by DEXSORB®, a PFAS-selective adsorbent engineered specifically for PFAS. It gives you a smarter upgrade to the pitcher format you already use, with PFAS-focused performance.

How long does it take to filter water?

Purefast® Countertop produces PFAS-free water in about 20 minutes.

What happens after the filter is used?

Each filter includes a prepaid mailer for Cyclopure’s Used Filter Return Program, supporting responsible PFAS handling after use.

Why does Cyclopure describe Purefast® as a 0-100-0 system?

This reflects Cyclopure’s lifecycle approach: 0 PFAS in your water, 100% of the cartridge media is reused in non-drinking water applications, and there is 0 PFAS waste after use as PFAS are separated and concentrated from the media for destruction to prevent recontamination of the environment.

Is Purefast® Countertop a good option for renters or apartments?

Yes. Purefast® Countertop is designed for people who want safer water without plumbing, tools, landlord approval, or permanent installation.

Is Purefast® Countertop a good first step for reducing PFAS at home?

Yes. Purefast® Countertop is a fast, ready-to-use option for households that want to start reducing PFAS exposure right away, without whole-home filtration installation.
