Background
PFAS treatment was required for AFFF-impacted stormwater at a military base in Pennsylvania. The untreated stormwater contains combined PFOA and PFOS levels over 2,000 ppt, with the discharge limit set at 70 ppt for PFOA and PFOS combined.
Installation
Cyclopure engineers replaced both GAC and IXR with 10,400 pounds of DEXSORB media to provide a total EBCT of 10 minutes (7 mins in the lead and 3 mins in the lag). The system operational flow rate ranged from 30 gpm to 240 gpm, depending on the water level in the stormwater basin.
Since Installation
Throughout the 5-month of operation and over 16 million gallons of stormwater treated, the DEXSORB system effectively removed PFAS from the stormwater. PFOA + PFOS levels were reduced from an average level of 1233.5 ng/L to < 5 ng/L in system effluent, below the discharge limit of 70 ppt.
