Background
Cyclopure was contracted by Groundwater & Environmental Services (GES) to treat one million gallons of AFFF wastewater stored in an AST onsite at Buckeye Port Reading Terminal to meet the NJPDES limits for PFOA, PFNA, and PFOS. The Terminal has multiple aboveground storage tanks (ASTs) that hold PFAS-contaminated wastewater associated with use of AFFF at the facility. New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJ DEP) has issued a discharge permit for the facility under the New Jersey Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NJPDES), with limits of 14 ppt for PFOA, 13 ppt for PFNA and 13 ppt for PFOS.
Installation
The DEXSORB system provided treatment in a packed bed filter configuration, with four vessels in series. Media loading was 1,980 lbs to provide a total EBCT of 19 minutes at a flow rate 25 gpm.
Since Installation
The system commenced operation on November 1, 2024, and treated 950,000 gallons over a period of 210 days, with full removal of NJPDES PFAS. DEXSORB performed with smooth hydraulics and low pressure drop in this complex water matrix.
