Background
Cyclopure was invited by another major waste management service provider to demonstrate DEXSORB PBF treatment of PFAS in leachate at a Pennsylvania landfill. A single-step PFAS treatment process is required for the treatment of post-MBR leachate. At this landfill, the average leachate flow rate is 75,000 gallons per day. PFAS are detected at a total concentration of 123,817 ppt, with PFOS and PFOA detected at 573 ppt and 22,778 ppt, respectively.
Installation
The post-MBR DEXSORB pilot system was installed in July 2024, consisting of four vessels connected in series, treating a 1.0 gpm split stream of post-MBR leachate.
Since Installation
After 102 days of operation, the post-MBR DEXSORB pilot system demonstrated efficient PFAS removal and smooth hydraulic operations, with no biofouling or mechanical clogging. The post-MBR pilot system treated 157,157 gallons of leachate, with favorable PFAS treatment performance of 100% removal for PFOS, PFHxS, and PFNA. PFOA removal was 94% from a starting concentration of 22,778 ppt. No backwash was required for the post-MBR DEXSORB during pilot operation.
