Full-Scale DEXSORB System for PFAS Remediation in Groundwater (NJ)


Background

Cyclopure was asked by Passaic Valley Water Commission to replace IXR to remove PFAS from groundwater at the Nosenzo Pond pump station, located in West Milford, NJ. The PVWC decision to replace IXR was due to poor PFAS removal caused by manganese fouling. EPA regulatory PFAS were measured with a total concentration of 85.8 ppt, including 52.65 ppt of PFOS.

Installation

Working with the engineering firm Cornwell Engineering Group, a DEXSORB pilot system was installed at the Little Falls water treatment facility to treat surface water. New Jersey DEP granted approval of DEXSORB based on its review of MassDEP approval reports and materials for the media. The system is designed to operate at 100 gpm flow rate with total EBCT of 8 minutes.

Since Installation

Since installation in July 2025, the DEXSORB vessel system has shown smooth hydraulics with low pressure drop and complete removal of EPA PFAS 6 to non-detect levels (< 2 ppt).
