Background
In 2024, Cyclopure was asked to install DEXSORB media to replace GAC at a community drinking water facility in Nikiski, Alaska. A DWTP client detected elevated PFAS contamination levels in two groundwater wells supplying drinking water to 85 service connections. The combined concentration of EPA 6 PFAS was detected at 549 to 810 ppt. Before DEXSORB PBF installation, the facility used four GAC filters showing limited removal of PFAS.
Installation
Cyclopure worked with a local water utility services provider to install a full-scale DEXSORB PBF system for PFAS removal from drinking water. DEXSORB media was loaded to replace the GAC media in one of the filters and is projected to effectively remove PFAS to below EPA MCLs over a two-year operation period. The system is designed to operate at 100 gpm flow rate with a total EBCT of 8 minutes.
Since Installation
In September 2024, the DEXSORB vessel has shown smooth hydraulics with low pressure drops and complete removal of EPA PFAS6 to non-detect levels (< 2 ppt). As of July 30, 2025, the system has treated over 8,565,853 gallons of water for PFAS.
